Collaborative Funding

The Institute seeks to support industry through transfer of knowledge and new learning from its partner Universities. One route to achieving this is via collaboration in research and technical product development, or proof of concept for industry.

With experience ranging from micro start-ups to established multinationals, ISLI is keen to work on projects that can enhance competitiveness and take up of new technologies in the UK design sector. Collaborations with SMEs are particularly welcome.

Many public funding schemes directly target such collaborations, so projects that could take advantage of either UK or EU grant funding would be encouraged. Historically ISLI has been successful in securing income from such sources, and has staff dedicated to co-ordinating and developing such applications.

Areas of interest to ISLI for collaborative research include:

  • Techniques for improvement in design productivity and accuracy at system level
  • Robust, affordable tools flows and methodologies
  • Evaluation and demonstration of emerging design technology for industry, particularly SMEs
  • Sensor networks
  • RF connectivity
  • Reusable IP – standards, methodologies and tools
  • Low-power reconfigurable platforms for SoC
  • Security in pervasive computing networks
  • Mixed-signal ASIC design
  • Embedded software development
  • MEMS design
  • Interface of MEMS and IC design tools
  • Test techniques for ICs, MEMS or opto devices
