The Institute has much to offer the electronics industry and provides support to help large and small companies compete effectively via its academic and commercial expertise in the fields of system and IC design, MEMS design and test engineering.

In the development of business partnerships, ISLI seeks to promote research capabilities and intellectual assets. We provide a single point of access enabling us to locate specialist knowledge and facilities from the four partner universities. This contributes to maximising performance and economic development required in today's ever changing environment.

Support for industry comes in the form of:

  • Joint research programmes funded partly by public sources
  • Custom development projects
  • Consultancy on design tools and techniques
  • Intellectual Property
  • A source of trained engineers
  • Technical and commercial support for start–ups
  • Professional development and training matched to industry needs
  • Short-term projects carried out by MSc students
  • Long-term research carried out by EngD research engineers

Our capabilities include:

  • Commercially experienced IC and MEMS design staff
  • Support from academics in partner universities
  • Association with Lancaster University’s Centre for Microsystems Engineering
  • Network of specialist engineering associates
  • Comprehensive range of design tools

The Institute’s approach:

  • Carrying out commercial research helps us understand current skills and research needs
  • Staff have experience in start-ups, multinationals and academic research and are flexible in finding solutions and meeting deadlines
  • ISLI understands how to manage IP and can help secure IP for your company
  • Responding to innovation and challenging problems, the Institute can anticipate research requirements of importance to SoC and related technologies
  • We can nurture research talent capable of meeting electronic design challenges in industry and via academic research
