iSLI and Professor Phillip Allen, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, regarded as one of the foremost international authorities on analogue circuit design together have developed a “Masterclass via Distance Learning” course on CMOS Analogue Circuit Design.

Professor Phillip Allen has been delivering his world-renowned five-day course in CMOS/BiCMOS Analogue Design at iSLI for several years. Now, a new on-line distance learning version is available reaching an even wider audience, involving the conversion of Professor Philip Allen’s high-quality classroom teaching materials into a new, web-friendly format.

This on-line course has been designed for a wide audience with a background in electronics including:

  • Electronic design companies with their own in-house training programmes
  • Project and line managers who wish to gain detailed knowledge of the Analog design process
  • Design engineers seeking to increase their understanding of the key principles, concepts and techniques of Analog CMOS design

Course Content

This on-line analogue course has been developed because understanding how to accomplish the design of analog integrated circuits is a crucial step in designing successful circuits. The tendency to use the computer for design of analog circuits is very risky, especially for those who are not experienced. This course presents an in depth examination of the elements of design and the influence and interaction with technology. It is focused on helping to understand how circuits work and how the performance of these circuits can be modified to achieve certain results.

The course consists of 40 lectures which totals 38 hours broadcast time that deal with various segments from:

  • Technology
  • Modeling
  • Subcircuits
  • Amplifiers
  • High performance circuits
  • Comparators
  • D/A and A/D Converters

Most segments are followed by a multiple choice quiz giving students real time feedback in regard to mastery of the topics.

Course Tutor

Professor Phillip Allen holds the Schlumberger Chair in Microelectronics at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, USA. Professor Allen has worked and consulted with many companies, including Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, General Motors (Delco), Pacific Missile Range, Texas Instruments and Lockhead Research Laboratory.

Professor Phillip Allen has carried out research and taught in several universities, including the University of California and Texas A&M University. He is also the author of several major textbooks.
