This new research project bid to EPRSC aims to build on the success of IP core-based approaches in order to develop an environment supporting automatic generation of new SoC architectures targeting high performance, low-power applications.
The architecture will be characterised by highly optimised IP cores as well as specially tailored hybrid and hierarchical interconnection schemes which have never been incorporated in a single SoC architecture together.
The research has been inspired by the success of the configure-and-execute approach developed by researchers in the United States and research work resulting from a currently concluding very successful EPSRC grant (GR/N08322/01) to investigate algorithms for low-power signal processing.
